Think firewood only ever gets used in the winter months in the UK? Think again! More and more people are looking to buy firewood to use in the summer months and here are some reasons why…
Wood-fired pizza ovens
In recent years, wood-fired pizza ovens have have been a popular choice for pop-up kitchens, marquees and outdoor caterers. But now they’re becoming increasingly popular in the domestic market too as people are embracing the experience of cooking outside. Get the kids involved and let them go crazy with their pizza toppings! The logs need to be very dry to allow the oven to reach a high temperature, around 400 degrees, as this ensures the pizza flavour isn’t tinged by excessive tastes of smoke. A top tip is you can sweep out the embers and let your wood-fired pizza oven cool down so you can do a spot of slow roasting!
Fire pits
Fire pits have become a popular feature in the back gardens and patios of style-hunters looking to bring an experience to their outside space. Fire pits can offer a captivating focal point to entertaining outside. Summer evenings in the UK can still be pretty chilly so grab some chairs and some good company and spend a few hours around a stylish firepit! A quick google search will give you endless inspiration for a fire pit area to add to your garden.
Campfires
Who doesn’t love a good campfire?! Getting back to nature, bringing warmth, fun and good memories of being a child again. Kids can enjoy toasting marshmallows whilst maybe even a guitar is brought out for a good old sing-along! Whilst scavenging for wood might seem like fun at the time, sadly the chances are that the wood will be damp and your camp fire dream could literally go up in a puff of black smoke! Grab yourself a bag of dried logs, however, and you’ll have a lovely roaring campfire in no time.
Woodburning stoves and open fires
Being in the UK, it is inevitable that we can’t guarantee a long hot summer. I mean, it’s now July and we’re wearing raincoats and reaching for the heating controls right?! It’s rare that we can get through summer without some chilly evenings so why just stare wistfully at your un-lit woodburner or open fire? Save on your heating bills and light it up!
No matter what you’re using the firewood for, we would always recommend barn or kiln dried hardwood logs that have an average moisture content of 20% or below. In our showroom we stock smaller net bags of logs, as well as being able to deliver tonne bags to your home. We also sell some handy moisture meters so you can ensure the wood you’re burning is best for the job!
